 Welcome to the Capital Clubhouse Skating Academy, a nationally-recognized US Figure Skating Basic Skills Program since 2005! Group lessons for all ages and skill levels are based on the US Figure Skating Basic Skills Progression of Skills Program.

Learn To Skate (LTS) welcomes NEW and RETURNING skaters all year round! 6 consecutive weeks of classes each session and sessions are offered any season - summer too! We welcome registrations over the phone and by drop-in. Call (301) 932 4348 for more information.

For Figure Skating

Strength  -  Agility  -  Endurance  -  Technique

Off-Ice Conditioning Class (OIC) builds strength and endurance, and develops good jump and spin technique which in turn transfers to the ice!

Registered LTS skaters receive a practice card loaded with 6 FREE admissions to public skate session during the 6 week session they are enrolled in classes.


Open to figure skaters level Basic 4 and above.

Freestyle sessions are for self guided practice for jumps/spins or program practice and excellent ice for private lessons. Admission fee: $14 for 60 minutes, $20 for 90 minutes. Private lesson commission: $3.50 per 30 minute lesson. Freestyle Admission Cards are available for purchase for $75 for 10 swipes.

Totsicles is in session September through May

First steps on the frozen surface for children ages 2-5 and an adult care-giver. Explore the ice in shoes (closed toe shoes - no sandals or flip-flops) or skates (for participating children only/rentals are included in the admission). The ice arena is set up with games and activities for self guided fun designed to enhance motor skill development as well as develop comfort with the frozen element. After the ice time participants enjoy a cup of hot cocoa while listening to a story read aloud in our warm lobby. Click here for current Totsicles flyer.   

Totsicles is scheduled Fridays when schools are off, Friday after Thanksgiving and during Christmas Holiday.

Snowplow Sam

Tots age 4-5 venture out with their peers to learn a progression of basic skills in three specially-designed levels: Snow Plow Sam 1, 2 and 3. Snow Plow Sam classes are part of  LTS Basic Skills Group Lessons. For class fee and times click on the link for LTS Basic Skills Session above.

Basic Skills for recreational and figure skating

Children (age 6-12) learn a progression of basic skills to gain confidence, discipline, and knowledge in order to advance to the higher levels of ice hockey and figure skating. Levels span from Basic 1 - 8. For class fee and times click on the link for LTS Basic Skills Sessions above.

Ice Hockey Skating Skills

Learn fundamental skating skills essential to success in ice hockey.  Hockey Skills classes are offered Mondays between 6-7pm. Hockey skills class prerequisite: Skaters must have passed Snow Plow Sam 3 or Basic 1 in LTS Academy using ice hockey skates. Hockey Skills Levels span from Hockey 1-4. Off-Ice Conditioning Class (OIC)

45 minute class of dry-land practice to help develop strength, endurance and agility as well as build muscle memory for skills that relate directly to figure skating and ice hockey. Classes are held Sundays 5:45-6:30pm. Open to skaters level B4 and above. Class fee: $60 if registered in LTS, $135 if non-LTS member. Advanced Level Figure Skating

Learn jumps, spins, artistic moves, and footwork through six basic free skating levels, then join the advanced JMFS freestyle/moves in the field classes to further hone your skills. JMFS for the current JMFS session flyer and class info.

For Teens and Adults (age 13 & up)Basic Skills

Classes exclusively for teens and adults allow skaters to progress at their own rate while being challenged and motivated. Classes cover multiple levels. Follows the same curriculum as Learn to Skate Basis Skills classes. Availability depends on registration configuration.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are a great way to hone in on skills you need more help with: one-on-one with one of our certified Basic Skills Instructors provides this! Private lessons are available for both recreational and competitive skaters, youth and adults. Or, take a lesson with a friend: Semi-private lessons are an affordable way to take advantage of the benefits of private lessons. A $3.50 private lesson commission fee applies in addition to the regular admission fee for all private lessons.

Guest Coach?

Contact Skating Director Sigrid Berge at sberge@capitalclubhouse.com for a GUEST COACH AGREEMENT ALL coaches teaching Private Lessons, ice hockey or figure skating, are required to turn in a complete signed the Guest Coach Agreement and provide proof of current PSA Membership and Liability Insurance Certificate naming Capital Clubhouse as insured PRIOR to taking the ice. Code of Ethics do apply - NO SOLICITING.
